| 2010/02/02 IBM Cognos Express Hits and Misses
I'm glad to see that IBM Cognos is making the most of good assets. Rather than introducing a light version of Cognos enterprise technologies to meet the needs of midsize companies, IBM yesterday bowed an IBM Cognos Express offering that is really one part Cognos and two parts Applix TM1....

| 2009/12/16 Flying Monkeys from Armonk: IBM buys Lombardi

| 2009/12/16 Early thoughts on IBM buying Lombardi
This has been quite a busy day, having seen IBM's announcement come over the wire barely after the alarm went off. Lombardi has always been the little BPM company that could. In contrast to rivals like Pegasystems, which has a very complex, rule-driven approach, Lombardi’s approach has always been characterized by simplicity. In that sense, its approach mimicked that of Fuego before it was acquired by BEA, which of course was eventually swallowed up by Oracle....

| 2009/12/16 IBM Buying Lombardi: A Bauble on their BPM Christmas Tree?
I was on the analyst call this morning to hear about IBM's acquisition of Lombardi - a pretty significant acquisition in the BPM space. Lombardi is the best known of the mid-range BPMS vendors, and if the economic climate weren't quite so dreary, I imagine that they'd be doing an IPO rather than being acquired, or at least staying as an independent rather than become part of an organization that offers what Phil Gilbert (president of Lombardi) recently described as not BPM, but "Orwellian marketing rhetoric". Given that Phil has done everything except call IBM the "evil empire", it's hard to imagine the drivers behind this acquisition....

| 2009/12/16 Holy crap, IBM is buying Lombardi
Just a few minutes ago I saw a tweet from Lombardi's Phil Gilbert announcing that IBM is buying Lombardi - one of the most high-profile and successful of specialist BPM technology vendors. There's going to be a briefing from IBM a little later today so I'm not yet in full possession of the detail - but with that caveat, here's my off-the-cuff reaction for anyone who wants it....

| 2009/06/22 There Can Be No Health Care Reform Without An Information Revolution
As President Obama and Congress take on what the president in his American Medical Association speech called the "ticking time bomb" of health care costs, they need to know that they can't succeed without harnessing the massive data generated by modern medicine. Getting the best information into the hands of doctors and patients, while protecting patient privacy, is not just a desire but an overriding need if we are to get a handle on spiraling costs and also improve care....

| 2008/07/14 Who rules the business process management software market?
