| 2009/12/16 Flying Monkeys from Armonk: IBM buys Lombardi
IBM bought Lombardi this morning for an "undisclosed sum". Having been through an acquisition by a larger company myself, I can only imagine what the Lombardi folks in Austin Texas (and elsewhere) may be thinking.

| 2009/12/16 Early thoughts on IBM buying Lombardi
This has been quite a busy day, having seen IBM's announcement come over the wire barely after the alarm went off. Lombardi has always been the little BPM company that could. In contrast to rivals like Pegasystems, which has a very complex, rule-driven approach, Lombardi’s approach has always been characterized by simplicity. In that sense, its approach mimicked that of Fuego before it was acquired by BEA, which of course was eventually swallowed up by Oracle....

| 2009/12/16 IBM Buying Lombardi: A Bauble on their BPM Christmas Tree?
I was on the analyst call this morning to hear about IBM's acquisition of Lombardi - a pretty significant acquisition in the BPM space. Lombardi is the best known of the mid-range BPMS vendors, and if the economic climate weren't quite so dreary, I imagine that they'd be doing an IPO rather than being acquired, or at least staying as an independent rather than become part of an organization that offers what Phil Gilbert (president of Lombardi) recently described as not BPM, but "Orwellian marketing rhetoric". Given that Phil has done everything except call IBM the "evil empire", it's hard to imagine the drivers behind this acquisition....

However said so in certain cases, with the help of Microsoft Partner / 3rd party products, you can achieve things that may be initially considered out of scope for MOSS. Following are some of the areas, which you need to watch out before going forward with MOSS....

| 2009/10/13 Do BPM vendors eat their own dogfood?
I really dislike that expression, but it's commonly recognized to mean that a company is using its own products to run its own business. I believe that a lot of BPM vendors do use their own products in some way, but how much? Are they just playing around with expense approvals, or have they drunk the process Kool-Aid and embedded BPM within their critical business processes? --- Some interesting comments from vendors...

| 2008/07/14 Who rules the business process management software market?
The release of Gartner statistics during the week of June 9 that show that IBM still rules the middleware market reminded me to ask the question: Who rules the BPM software market? It’s a trick question: IBM rules the BPM software market too.
