While the use of data quality software has hit an all-time high, companies, by their own admission, are still losing boatloads of money because of inaccurate data, according to a recent survey. The average organization surveyed by Gartner said it loses $8.2 million annually through poor data quality. Further, of the 140 companies surveyed, 22% estimated their annual losses resulting from bad data at $20 million. Four percent put that figure as high as an astounding $100 million....

| 2009/07/17 How do you get started with MDM?
Why is there no simple, automated, or formalized, blue print for getting MDM going? Each and every enterprise starts their journey toward MDM, from a completely different place. As such, there is no single blue print, but several, even many. There are large patterns emerging, but these are today not detailed enough to provide individual blue print for each firm....

Gartner are releasing a Magic Quadrant for Data Quality every year now, there have been quadrants in 2007, 2008 and now the new one in 2009. Usually when the quadrants are freely available in the public domain I mash the previous quadrant with the current one to show vendor movements. Last time I wrote DataFlux Takes the Lead in Magic Quadrant for Data Quality Tools 2008. This time I am going to skip 2008 and show the movement of vendors from 2007 to 2009 to get bigger trends....

By now, most organizations understand the concept of master data management (MDM). After all, vendors like IBM, Siperian and others have been pushing the MDM message for years. | 2009/04/29 Candid Thoughts About Recent Gartner & Forrester Research
My reaction to recent Gartner and Forrester analyst reports, as covered in Intelligent Enterprise articles, is that the firms are tarting up questionable research. A Gartner report urges us to "Reduce Costs of Data Integration by Rationalizing Tools and Infrastructure, and Centralizing Skills." According to Gartner's press release, "organizations can save up to $500,000 annually by rationalising tools in the short term and adopting a shared-services model in the longer term," a simplistic statement to say the least, more on which in a moment....
